Course Overview
This lecture will give an overview of adhesive esthetic dentistry with a focus on how to get the best out of the ceramics and adhesive materials that are currently available. With an integrated approach that looks at diagnosis and treatment planning as well as smile design, the attendee will be able to communicate the desired outcome to both the patient and the laboratory. Techniques looking at the simplification of temporization and predictable cementation procedures in conjunction with efficient tissue management will provide the clinician with the recipe for providing the best esthetic results possible for the patient. A thorough examination of zirconium based restorations and lithium disilicate will be reviewed.
Topics include:
- Glass Ionomers - Fresh Look at an old subject
- All in one adhesives - What's new?
- The newest all ceramic systems - lithium disilicate vs. zirconium
- All in one resin cements - Bond strength comparisons
- Temporization Techniques - Rapid provisionalization
- Ingot Selection for Smile Designs-Pressed Ceramics
- Joint Based Dentistry - MRI Interpretation
- Treatment Planning - Simplicity in a difficult environment
Hands-On Predictable Composite & Glass Ionomer Restorations (Lecture & Hands-On)
Throughout the world, the use of glass ionomers has been successful in decreasing sensitivity and helping with remineralizing natural tooth structure. Dentists now have the opportunity to use the latest glass ionomers, adhesives and composites to restore lost tooth structure. Participants have the ability to learn, understand, and handle the different materials available, which allows them esthetic and functional success when working in the anterior and posterior regions of the mouth. The intention of this course is to dramatically decrease potential post-operative sensitivity, while placing long lasting restorations in a workable environment. The keys to success such as predictability, and reproducibility are covered as well as explained in depth to achieve clinical success. This hands on program will cover the use of Glass Ionomers and Composites for Class 1 and Class 2 posterior restorations.
Learning Objectives:
- Understanding the uses of Glass Ionomers
- All in one adhesives – What's New
- Predictable contacts in the posterior utilizing sectional matrixes and contact rings
- Placement techniques for optimal esthetics in the posterior with Composites
- Efficient polishing of posterior restorations

**A component of Esthetic Dentistry Courses
The goal of the University of Toronto Esthetic Dentistry courses is to provide participants with a logical and insightful perception as to how to examine, treatment plan and deliver dentistry to their patients that is functional, esthetic and optimally maintainable.
The courses will be run in logical progression in order to give each practitioner insight, perception, and the vision to achieve their restorative esthetic goals. Treatment planning and working with a dental team of specialists is stressed. Although there is no way to learn everything in just seven sessions, participants will acquire the fundamentals and direction to continue their quest for dental excellence.
Participants who successfully complete seven courses in a period not exceeding three years from the date they begin this program will receive a certificate from the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry Continuing Dental Education. This certificate will not confer specialty status nor is it meant to infer superior qualifications but is recognition of the dentist’s participation in this Continuing Dental Education program. Each of the programs will take place on a Friday and Saturday in Toronto. Each course will consist of a full day lecture on Friday followed by hands-on participation on Saturday to allow the participant to fully understand and practice what they have learned the previous day.
