Course Overview
Have you started to place dental implants in your practice? If so, this course is for you! It is designed for the practitioner who has already taken a basic implant surgical course and has begun, or wishes to begin, to place implants in their practices. This course will assist you to feel more comfortable with your surgical decision making and will help with your confidence in the surgical placement of dental implants.
Using a combination of hands on exercises using cadaveric heads and didactic material the program will cover:
- Medical issues associated with patient selection;
- Evolution of implant design: making the right choice of a dental implant for your patients;
- Surgical treatment planning;
- Imaging: what and when to use;
- Surgical guides and guided surgery;
- Flap design and suturing techniques;
- Socket preservation and immediate implant placement;
- Local grafting techniques and ridge augmentation;
- Soft tissue procedures to make your implant restorations more effective.

Biographies
Dr. Cameron Clokie is a Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Toronto. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) in 1985 and subsequently a PhD in bone regeneration related to interface development from McGill University. He has many publications and has lectured internationally on a variety of topics related to oral healthcare including Implant Dentistry and Bone Regeneration. In 1993, Dr Clokie established the Bone- Integrated Implant Research Group at McGill University that has been actively involved in the evaluation and development of new bone regenerative technologies. In this capacity he has served as a consultant and as a member of the scientific advisory boards for numerous companies and industrial partners. He has been granted patents for technologies developed in his laboratory both for North America and Europe. Dr. Clokie has developed an international network of collaborators working in this field attempting to better understand the impact of growth factor technologies on bone regeneration. The fundamental goal of his work is to develop bioimplants that will eventually replace the need for autogenous bone grafts. He also maintains a busy clinical practice in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Toronto, Ontario with a focus on dental implants, facial reconstruction and bone regeneration.
Dr. Jack Zosky is a graduate of the University of Toronto and received his specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Northwestern University. He is a Fellow of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. He is a member of the International Congress of Oral Implantology and the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. Dr. Zosky is the author of several implant-related articles and a chapter in the W.B. Saunders textbook: “Endosseous Implants in the Maxillofacial Reconstruction.” He has lectured extensively in North America and abroad. He is past president of the Canadian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and past President of the Academy of Osseointegration Foundation. He has Fellowship status in the Academy of Osseointegration. Dr. Zosky is an Associate in Dentistry, University of Toronto and teaches in the Implant Prosthodontic Unit.
